From its striking architecture and immaculate gardens to its centuries-long traditions of visual and literary arts, multicultural London is the ultimate destination for any traveler. Museum lovers flock to the West End to visit the British Museum, the largest in the country, whose relics include the Rosetta Stone and a large collection of Egyptian mummies. Nearby, the National Gallery displays European art from every major period and boasts works by Van Gogh, Renoir, and da Vinci. Though the 11th-century Tower of London is a great destination year-round, is it particularly festive in the winter when its Medieval Christmas celebration brings in jesters and minstrels to prepare for the holiday season. The city’s architectural diversity is highlighted in the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Gothic arches of Westminster Abbey, as well as Neoclassical Buckingham Palace. Fans of the Bard won’t be able to see the original Globe Theatre, which was destroyed in a fire in 1613, but they will see its closest approximation, including an open-air arena subject to the occasional London downpour.
