Passion Play After surviving the 30 Year War and the Black Plague the people of Oberammergau swore to perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. The first performance was held in 1634. 2010 marks the next performance and should not be missed. While enjoying this tour you will not only stay right in the village of Oberammergau and experience the full drama of the Passion Play, but also will travel from the Italian Lakes through the Alps to Zurich, and then into Germany.

Day 1: Depart USA
  • Your trip to Milan begins when you board your flight bound for Milan Airport (airfare not included in tour price)

  • Day 2: Arrive in Milan
  • Upon arrival in Milan, you will be transferred to your hotel on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Italy’s second largest lake, Maggiore stretches all the way to the Swiss border and is set against a majestic Alpine backdrop. This evening meet your fellow passengers at a welcome dinner on the lake. (D)

  • Day 3: Lake Maggiore
  • Today is yours to rest and relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery of this magical place. (B)

  • Day 4: Italy to Switzerland
  • After breakfast, we will enjoy a breathtaking ride along the lakeshore and over the Alps. We'll make a stop in Lugano, a resort town in the Ticino district, sometimes called the Monte Carlo of Switzerland. We then continue on to Zurich. (B)
  • Overnight: Zurich - Montana Hotel

  • Day 5: Switzerland to the Black Forest
  • This morning we will enjoy a panoramic tour of the city of Zurich. Then it's all aboard our lake vessel for a view of the city and the mountains from the waterways. Relax on board as you admire the picturesque villages and stately villas that dot the shore. In the afternoon we cross the border into Germany, arriving in the Black Forest for our overnight stay.   • Overnight: Black Forest region - Schone Aussicht

  • Day 6: Black Forest to Oberammergau
  • We visit one of the largest clocks in the world in Gutach, and then continue on to the Schwarzwald Frelicht Museum. This open air museum is designed as a traditional farm village with a collection of authentic buildings brought here from all over Germany. Our drive then takes us through the Black Forest to the Bavarian town of Oberammergau, our home for the next two nights. (B) (D)
  • Overnight: Oberammergau

  • Day 7: Oberammergau
  • The morning is yours to explore the village. This afternoon the pageantry of the Passion Play will unfold as it has since 1634. Every ten years the townspeople come together to share this spectacular event with visitors from all over the world as their thanks for being spared during The Black Plague. (B)(L)(D)
  • Overnight: Oberammergau

  • Day 8: Oberammergau to Wurzburg
  • Today we leave Oberammergau. We will stop at Neuchwanstein to visit King Ludwig's Castle, one of the most famous and recognizable castles in the world. We will also enjoy a photostop at Wieskirche, the Church in the Meadow, in Ettal. Then it's north on the Romantic Road through the heart of Bavaria, with a stop in Rothenburg to enjoy this centuries old town. We continue on to our two night stay in Wurzburg. (B)
  • Overnight: Wurzburg - Walfisch

  • Day 9: Wurzburg
  • You will enjoy a tour of Wurzburg this morning. We will see the Alte Mainbrucke, the oldest bride spanning the River Main. We will visit the Residenz Palace, dating from the 18th century, and will admire the largest frescoed ceiling in the world. After some free time for lunch and explorations on your own, we will reconvene this evening for our farewell dinner cruise on the Rhine. (B)(D)
  • Overnight: Wurzburg - Walfisch

  • Day 10: Return to the US
  • Leave your hotel transfer to Frankfurt for your return flight to the United States. (B)

    will be charged 365 days prior to departure. Final payment will be charged 210 days prior to departure.
