Passion Play After surviving the 30 Year War and the Black Plague the people of Oberammergau swore to perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. The first performance was held in 1634. 2010 marks the next performance and should not be missed. While enjoying this tour you will not only stay right in the village of Oberammergau and experience the full drama of the Passion Play, but will also visit many highlights in Germany.

Day 1: Depart USA
  • Your trip to Munich begins when you board your flight bound for Munich Airport (airfare not included in tour price)

  • Day 2: Arrive in Munich
  • Upon arrival in Munich, you will be transferred to your hotel in the Bavarian area of Germany. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy this delightful region. This evening join your tour director and fellow passengers for a welcome dinner. (D)
  • Overnight: Munich - Carat Hotel

  • Day 3: Munich to Oberammergau
  • This morning we will enjoy a panoramic tour of Munich before heading out to Oberammergau. We’ll see sites such as the royal Square, Ludwigstreet, and of course the famous Glockenspiel at Marienplatz. We arrive in Oberammergau mid-afternoon, and our hotel is centrally located in this picture postcard Bavarian town. (B) (D)
  • Overnight: Oberammergau

  • Day 4: The Passion Play
  • The morning is yours to explore the village. This afternoon the pageantry of the Passion Play will unfold as it has since 1634. Every ten years the townspeople come together to share this spectacular event with visitors from all over the world as their thanks for being spared during The Black Plague.(B)(L)(D)
  • Overnight: Oberammergau

  • Day 5: Oberammergau to Black Forest
  • After our included breakfast, we will head west. We’ll make a stop at Neuchwanstein to visit King Ludwig's Castle, one of the most famous and recognizable castles in the world. Then we enter the area known as the Black Forest. The Schwarzwald is a small mountain range that follows Germany's border with Switzerland. Because of the dense pine forestation, little light reaches the earth, and this darkness gives the area its name. (B)
  • Overnight: Black Forest region, Hornberg - Schone Aussicht

  • Day 6: Black Forest
  • Today you will tour this delightful corner of Germany area extensively, with a stop to see the giant clock at the Eble Clock Factory. You will also have a visit to the Schwarzwald Frelicht Museum. This open air museum is designed as a traditional farm village with a collection of authentic buildings brought here from all over Germany. You'll also have some free time to relax, and shop - perhaps for a cuckoo clock. (B)
  • Overnight: Black Forest region, Hornberg - Schone Aussicht

  • Day 7: Black Forest to Rhine River
  • Today we will travel north past the spa town of Baden-Baden. We will make a stop in Heidelberg, dominated by its skyline castle and famous for its university. You’ll have free time to enjoy the town center, Altstadt. Then we will continue on to the Rudesheim area of the Rhine River for our overnight stay. (B)
  • Overnight: Heidelberg - Crowne Plaza Heidelberg

  • Day 8: Frankfurt and River Cruise
  • This morning we will visit Frankfurt, the 5th largest city of Germany. We will see such sights as St. Batholomeus Cathedral, the City Hall, and the Opera House. After our panoramic tour, we will have some free time to enjoy the Romerburg - the old town center. We then depart Frankfurt and return to the Rhine River for an afternoon cruise on one of the most scenic sections of the river. Be sure to have your camera ready for photos of the Lorelei. We then enjoy our farewell dinner. (B) (D)
  • Overnight: Overnight: Heidelberg - Crowne Plaza Heidelberg

  • Day 9: Return to the US
  • Leave your hotel and transfer to Frankfurt for your return flight to the United States. (B)

    is due at time of booking to hold your Passion Play tickets.
  • We reserve the right to change hotels
    and cities on the itineraries if necessary due to participant numbers.
  • Additional $500 per person payment
    will be charged 365 days prior to departure. Final payment will be charged 210 days prior to departure.
