  • After breakfast we will depart Athens along the coastal road, passing over the Corinth Canal, into the Peloponnesian Peninsular, named after the mythical Greek hero Pelops. We continue on to Mycenae where we see the Lion’s Gate and the Tomb of Agamemnon, who was the commander in chief of the Greek army during the Trojan War. We will also see the theater at Epidaurus, designed in the 4th century BC, and famous for its excellent acoustics. We will overnight at our hotel in either Olympia or Patras. • Day 6: Delphi and Kalambaka
  • When Zeus wanted to know the exact location of the earth’s center, he released two eagles. After circumnavigating the earth, they met here at Delphi, and so Zeus declared this spot the center of the earth. It was also chosen by the god Apollo as his principal sanctuary, and this morning we will visit this amazing site. We will also spend time in the museum that houses many magnificent treasures, including the famed bronze “Charioteer”. In the afternoon we will enjoy our scenic drive through the lovely towns of central Greece on our way to Kalambaka, a town nestled against steep, dramatic and majestic gray rock pinnacles. Tonight dinner is included at your hotel. (B)(D)

  • Day 7: Meteora
  • Today we visit Meteora – which means “suspended in air”. These sandstone rock pillars provided a place of sanctuary to hermit monks who sought refuge from the Turks. A series of 20 monasteries were built on the tops of these pillars, accessible not by stairs, but by nets and ropes! Here we will admire priceless examples of Byzantine art protected in these amazing structures. Later in the day we will make our way back towards Athens, passing by Trikala, birthplace of three of the Argonauts who in Greek mythology accompanied Jason in his search for the Golden Fleece; Lamia, and Thermopylae, where we will view the monument of Leonida, the King of Sparta who bravely held off the Persians here in an epic battle, and then passing by Kamena Vourla, a city renowned for its hot springs and spas. We overnight in Athens this evening where you will be free for the remainder of the evening. (B)
